Ian Somerhalder On Anatomy of a Hate Crime [2001]
Presented in three half-hour “acts” by the MTV cable network on January 10, 2001, the fact-based Anatomy of a Hate Crime was the opening volley of MTV’s year-long campaign “Fight For Your Rights: Take a Stand Against Discrimination.” In recalling the horrendous torture-murder of 21-year-old Matthew Shepard near Laramie, WY in 1998, the film focuses as much on the twisted logic and motivations of Matthew’s killers Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney as it does on the victim and the crime. Cy Carter stars as the unfortunate Shepard, with Ian Somerhelder and Brendan Fletcher, respectively, cast as Henderson and McKinney. Filmed in Alberta, Anatomy of a Hate Crime was originally bookended by a marathon recital of recent examples of sexual and racial persecution, delivered by an impressive list of unseen celebrities.

Ian Somerhalder On Young Americans [2000]
I absolutely can recall this TV series -- when I was so hooked up with Dawson's Crreek. I was waiting for the resume of the said show, when 'Young Americans' suddenly showed up --- but gladly that the story was agreeable and interesting. I now can remember, which was like 11 years ago, the guy with mickey-blue-eyes who mistakenly falling in-love with a guy. So, Hamilton Fleming really thought that he's gay for kissing a guy -- only to find out that the guy he knew is a girl!
Young Americans was an American television drama on The WB network created by Steven Antin. The show debuted in 2000 as a summer replacement for, and spin-off from, another Columbia TriStar Television production, Dawson’s Creek, in three episodes at the end of that series’ third season.
The show explores themes of forbidden love, morality and social classes.
Ian Somerhalder is Hamilton Fleming, a student at the school and the son of the dean. Hamilton finds himself confused by his attraction to Jake.
The show is set in the town of New Rawley at a tiny boarding school, Rawley Academy.
The plot focuses mainly on Will’s moral dilemmas and the forbidden love of Scout and Bella.
The characters Jake and Hamilton are explored in a storyline that until the last two episodes has very little to nothing to do with any of the other main characters.

Ian Somerhalder On Now and Again [1999]
Ian appears on the episode: A Girl’s Life
Now and Again was an American television series which aired in the US from September 24, 1999 until May 5, 2000 on CBS. The story revolves around the United States government engineering the perfect human body for use in espionage, but not being able to yet perfect the brain. In an attempt to get the project off and running, they take the brain of overweight family man Michael Wiseman, who is killed in a subway accident.
Given a new life, Michael is kept in an apartment where he is trained by government experts, led by Dr. Theodore Morris, in the art of espionage. Despite his new life and new abilities, Michael longs to return to his wife Lisa and daughter Heather, who are themselves discovering that not all is as it seems with Michael’s death.
The show mixed action with comedy (particularly in the relationship between Dr. Morris and Michael), and focused largely on Michael’s emotional connection to his family.

[On his reasons for becoming an actor] "To explore different parts of yourself and different emotional lives....not to hide from who you are but to actually explore who you are".

"This program teaches people that it only takes a single unlucky moment to lead to tragedy, if you come into contact with one really f***ed-up person, they can truly take your life away." You can't get anywhere without the people who have come into your life.
